Lawning and Gardening

This stinking yard is so full of potential! Untapped potential is one of my least favorite things. It’s like an itch that I can’t reach.

The lot that our house is on is a decent size. I have had grand hopes and dreams for years—to plant flowers and vegetables, to replace the patchy grass with drought-proof ground cover, to add a space to sit and relax. For several springs and summers in a row, motivation would strike and I would announce to Brent my plans to rent a tiller and get after it, and each time he would bring me back down to Earth.

“Not now, you’re 8 months pregnant.”

“Not now, we’re going to build an addition on the house and this whole area is going to be excavated.”

“Not now, you’re 8 months pregnant and have a 2-year-old.”

“Not now, we’re about to have a construction crew building a shed and this will all get bulldozed.”

Finally, we are making progress! After having a patio installed in the summer of 2023, and tons of weeding, planting, and soil amending, I’m starting to feel empowered to turn our outdoor space into somewhere that we can enjoy with friends and family.

Brent and I discussed this ongoing project on episode 34 of Adventures with BAM.
