Comet Tsuchinshan–ATLAS

In doing a little spring cleaning, I realized I never did anything with my photos of Comet C/2023 A3. I did not have much time to do anything about it, so I only made a quick trip a couple of miles north of Moscow, the boys in tow, and spent about 25 minutes shooting.

To my naked eye, Tsuchinshan–ATLAS was quite faint, but I was able to see it. The boys were not as patient. I am not sure if their eyes were not adjusted or if they did not understand what to look for, but I don’t blame them for missing it.

As a child, I remember seeing a comet, and I could be wrong, but I don’t know how it would have been anything other than Hale-Bopp, which was incredibly bright (as far as comets go) and visible for 18 months. Hopefully my boys will have an opportunity like that at some point in their lives, but I’ve also learned that there are a lot of comets out there for those willing to go to a little extra effort to observe them.
