Glacier 2024 — Lakeside and Polebridge

Camas Road crosses the river and connects to North Fork Road on the way to Polebridge.

It is always a blessing to visit our friends at 100 Fold Studio, so we went down to Lakeside to see some old friends and meet some new ones. It also happened to be the last day of Summer Studio 2024, so I got to meet some of their students and share a bit about Impact Campus Ministries. After lunch at the park, we went to an alpine coaster that was a good time, but didn’t feel entirely worth it. Darius also got stung by a wasp on the chin, so that was a buzzkill. We bounced back the next day by going up to Polebridge and entering Glacier National Park from there. We found our way to Bowman Lake and it was delightful.

Some of the staff I got to meet at 100 Fold Studio. As you can imagine with a group of architects, they have a very cool office building.

Torin stuck to his guns and would not join us for a photo.

Darius was first up at the alpine coaster.

He chose to go with Maggi.

He was pretty unsure about the whole experience, but ultimately enjoyed the thrill.

He wanted to go again. Here he is a few minutes before the sting.

Then it was Torin’s turn.

When Torin wasn't concerned about going too fast, he was having the time of his life. It was a tricky balance of speed.

It really cheered Darius up to find a new style of fire truck shopping cart.

Three hours later at a different store, the boys found yet another new style of shopping cart.

The mountains of Glacier National Park from North Fork Road on the way to Polebridge.

Always keep your eyes open for waterfalls. We only spotted this one the second time we went past it.

Polebridge was a different pace of life compared to the other parts of Glacier National Park. Nobody was in a rush to get anywhere or do anything.

Polebridge has a decent view all by itself, even before officially entering the park.

This bee was doing some serious work on these flowers. He basically disappeared inside for most of the time. This photo is right before he took off for the next bloom.

The entrance was a short hop from Polebridge, and it was late enough in the day that the booth was unstaffed and there were no other cars around.

I stopped at this meadow thinking it might be a good location to spot a bear, but no such luck.

Six miles in on a very narrow dirt road, we found ourselves at the pristine Bowman Lake.

There were some other people at Bowman Lake, but not many.

The boys had a great time throwing rocks into the lake.

Darius’s shirt felt like a color palette for the scene.

I enjoyed playing with the compression of my longest lens to bring the mountain in close behind Maggi. This one is called Rainbow Peak.

How are there any rocks left on this beach?

Everybody in one shot!

No bears to be seen by us on this side of the park (and we looked), but we did happen upon this bighorn sheep. He ran up behind this tree and thankfully obliged when I begged him to turn around.

We also discussed the above on episode 38 of Adventures with BAM.
